No entendí bien la pregunta, pero si no está registrado no tendría whois, aparecían en blanco, es decir el dominio podría ser registrado por cualquiera.

Si ahora se encuentra libre, pero en algún momento fue de alguien… esa información puede estar guardada en algún registro histórico. Gratuito conozco este: http://www.who.is/domain_archive-net/ y tal vez http://archive.org/web/web.php te pueda ser útil para ver cómo era un sitio antes.
